Laura has now been home for 385 days and couldn't be better! She has adjusted beautifully to family life, is eager to learn, consistently works very hard to master new skills and is a loving, sweet, silly, slightly stubborn and treasured daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend. She had genetic testing done over the summer and was diagnosed with Prader-Willi syndrome. This was a surprising diagnosis because she does not currently have significant issues with food or food seeking, which are the most characteristic symptom of PWS, but she does exhibit most of the other symptoms and has begun growth hormone therapy to increase her muscle mass and metabolism. She knows all of her letters and most of the sounds for which they stand and has begun to sound out simple words. She recognizes numbers and is working on counting groups of objects from one to five. She still loves her co-op class, puzzles, stickers, animals, swings and slides. She is eagerly anticipating Christmas. What a difference a year makes!

She looks wonderful! Nice update.
